Smell ya later gramps10/31/2022 ![]() ![]() It is quite literally a zero-to-hero story that we all find fascinating, and sometimes even wishing that we could become that hero. Of course, being the hero of the game, you will stop them. Along the way, there will always be a misguided organisation like Team Rocket or Team Magma abusing Pokemon for their own uses. Eventually, you are able to challenge the Elite Four – the supposed pinnacle of the Pokemon World. In the game, there are 8 “gyms” which you will have to fight in increasing difficulty. Smell ya later gramps series#Every version in the main series (save Yellow) starts off as the protagonist receiving his or her first Pokemon, being able to choose between 3 starters of the Fire, Water or Grass type. Perhaps the success of Pokemon lies in the storyline. A single experience so oddly universal and relatable, in bits and pixels of a game. That experience that we share, finally beating Gary (Smell ya later gramps!) is something that even today, we can laugh about. I remember holding the Game Boy anxiously beside my sister, taking on the Elite Four. As an 8 year old child, it was the first time I got the feeling of being able to reap the rewards from hours and hours of effort. It was a time of finding out new things on our own, a feeling we scarcely experience today.Īnd we did all of that with our Pokemon. There was little information to questions such as “Where to catch Mewtwo?” or “How do I beat Gary?”. The mysterious and magical aspect of exploring an undiscovered land was compounded by the lack of technology: back in the days of childhood, when we first got our hands on a Gameboy Colour the internet was still new. To many, Pokemon became our pets, our companions, and our friends. You could traverse the farthest oceans, lands and caves to catch 151 different kinds of creatures, and train them. When they first came out, this game was the first type of its kind. ![]() Pokemon first came out 20 years ago today, as “Pokemon Green” and “Pokemon Red”, the Japanese versions. Most have played at least one version of it, and those who don’t, surely you’ve heard of Pocket Monsters? This game series is arguably the most popular and widely known one throughout the world. They're not just villains, they're actually the most horribly screwed-up evil shit to ever happen in a pokémon game.Just one word can bring back waves of nostalgia or at least, familiarity, to many youths today. One of the Team Flare scientists, Xerosic, has no qualms with using an orphaned girl to test his experiments and commit crime. In addition, E4 member Malva (who was a Team Flare member) has deep mafia connection, and threatens to kill the player at least once. I'll remind you that the weapon actually fired, which means that the life-force had irrevocably been spent - pokémon, and probably also people, died én masse DURING THE ACTUAL STORY MODE. They have no problem whatsoever with draining the life-force of probably hundreds or even thousands of pokémon and people to power a weapon to destroy everone who isn't on Team Flare. They seem goofy at first, but it very soon becomes clear that they are the most downright nasty villainous team ever. In B2W2, they were just criminals (at least the evil Team Plasma). Team Galactic was mostly kept in the dark by Cyrus about what the real plans were, and many members of Team Plasma were in it because they actually wanted to help pokémon, at least in BW. Teams Aqua and Magma were misguided but just wanted to help. Rocket's leaders at least acted with honor, and Giovanni refused to reform the team after it had been torn down once. Every other team had something redeeming about them. No, Team Flare was seriously the best villainous team ever. ![]()
